Neighborhood Noms is a social enterprise that aims to empower women from low-income families by providing them with flexible employment opportunities. They host cooking classes that showcase Singapore's rich and diverse culture and cuisine.
Every year, tourists pack their bags in search of new experiences in another land. Despite the tourism industry gaining traction in recent decades, it often still lacks one thing that makes the experience unique to each traveler - the human touch.
Neighbourhood Noms aims to introduce the participants to the heartlands of Singapore and provide a unique dining experience. Each of Singapore's heartland neighborhoods boast a distinctive character and families that live there will share their stories and experiences with participants.
We recognised that many of our beneficiaries had amazing abilities in cooking. We saw a great opportunity to improve the lives of women from low-income families by organising cooking classes in which they play host to participants interested in learning to cook local Singaporean dishes. The proceeds from the cooking classes serve as a form of income for these women and their families.
Neighbourhood Noms also aims to enhance the soft skills of our hosts and increase their self-confidence. By meeting new people, they also widen their social circle and join a community of women with a strong sense of purpose and motivation to improve their livelihoods.
